PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — An EF-1 tornado caused some damage in Upper Bucks County Thursday night, according to the National Weather Service.

Officials confirmed a tornado was a part of the severe storm, near Routes 113 and 313. They did not specify how strong it was until gathering data Friday morning and afternoon, saying that the tornado reached winds as fast as 100 miles per hour.

In Perkasie Friday morning, trees were uprooted and scattered along the sides of Bedminster Road, near Bucks Road. Some siding and shingles were ripped off of houses.

Neighbors described hearing fierce winds, like a train or a big truck speeding by.

For Ginger Ferlise, part of the fence she shares with her neighbor was knocked down. She recalls getting the tornado warning on her phone.

“But it came just at the time when we had already heard the wind,” she said. “There were things pounding on the side of the house. And I said to my husband that we better get in the basement. And then we got the warning. And that fast, it was over.”

Fortunately, they were not hurt. There were no reports of injuries to others either. Ferlise said her power was only out for about an hour and a half, and PECO isn’t reporting any widespread outages as of the morning.

The NWS sent crews out to the area Friday morning to attain more information. Weather officials can’t make a determination without seeing the aftermath for themselves. They noted there was “lofted debris” on the radar Thursday night.

Indications show this was more isolated than widespread — certainly nowhere near as bad as last August from Hurricane Ida, when seven tornadoes caused damage to South Jersey and the greater Philadelphia area.
