PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The millions of deaths due to COVID-19 during the pandemic have been well documented, but the CDC recently released a disturbing report that alcohol use increased dramatically in 2020 and 2021.

While the increase was significant in both men and women, women were hit harder. Excessive drinking-related deaths increased by 27% in men and more than 35% in women.

The CDC also has raised concerns about alcohol use in adolescents during this period. Factors such as stress, social isolation and boredom were major contributors that led to alcohol abuse.
