PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — People are spending more time than ever in front of digital screens. Over the past few years, there have been several studies linking screen time with myopia or nearsightedness.
But how much screen time does it take to cause this damage? A new study in the Journal of the American Medical Association has reviewed over 45 studies focusing on more than 335,000 people.
According to the study, the safe amount of time is one hour per day, but there is a “notable” rise in risk between one and four hours of exposure.
A particular concern is the increased use of digital devices by children. The article suggests that children may be the most vulnerable. Many 2-year-olds spend up to two hours per day on such devices.
