PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Studies continue to support the value of telemedicine in health care. The latest information comes in the form of an analysis of 699 children reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

According to the report, telehealth using mobile medical devices can be equally as effective as in-person exams in children over the age of 2 — in specifically targeted areas, e.g., ear, nose and throat exams as well as heart and lung assessment.

The report found that remote abdominal exams were not as reliable, but the article views telehealth as a tool to take care of hard-to-reach groups and expand care.
