PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — What does freedom look like through your lens?
TILT Institute, a local art organization, is celebrating America’s 250th anniversary with a Philly Photo Day project. From April 6-12, anyone with a camera or smartphone can snap a pic of something that answers the prompt, “How we stay free?” and submit it to this website as a JPEG file.
TILT says people can show simple acts, like peaceful protests and public gatherings, or sights and symbols like the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall or murals.
The submission window closes on April 12 at 11:59 p.m. They say, "Any offensive or hate-filled images will be declined."
The photos will be included in a Philly Photo Day exhibition, which will be displayed for free in TILT’s project gallery at The Crane Arts Building from May 13 until June 27.

Ashlyn and her friend Anna are already snapping away, ready to submit their photos for the art exhibition, and Ken, a local photographer, is inspired by the idea of bringing the city together through photography.
“It’s a very good thing. It’s a great idea, actually,” Ken said. “It demonstrates a visual step forward.”
Kalib from South Philly feels sharing photos is a wonderful way to explore Philly’s diverse communities.
“There’s a lot around Philadelphia, a lot of character, art and history, and I think it’s really cool to have everyone share a little piece of their own.”
