PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A family is safe Saturday morning and a suspect is in custody after a carjacker drove off in the car they were in Friday night, in the Nicetown area.

Police caught the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Marcel Jenkins of Strawberry Mansion, after he allegedly carjacked a second vehicle and took them on a high speed chase.

It all started at Broad and Erie streets around 9 p.m. Friday.

A man left his wife and two young children in the car while delivering pizzas. That's when Jenkins allegedly jumped in the car and took off, according to Philadelphia police, with the family still inside.

They were later found at 21st and Spring Garden streets, after police said Jenkins wrecked the vehicle then carjacked a second.

Police chased Jenkins for miles and eventually caught him in the Franklin Square area, just after 11 p.m.

The woman and her two children are safe.
