CHELTENHAM, P.A. (KYW Newsradio) — A suspect is in custody after police said they stole a car in Cheltenham with a two-year-old inside Thursday.

The Cheltenham Township Police Department said officers responded to a call about an abduction from near a parking lot on Cheltenham Avenue in Wyncote just before noon.

Investigators believe the person who stole the car knew the victim who owned it, and said the victim was able to locate the car with their two-year-old inside before officers got there.

However, when the officers attempted to pull over the stolen car, it sped off with the toddler in tow.

Eventually, officers were able to get the driver to pull over a few miles from where they fled, near the intersection of East Walnut Lane and Baynton Street in the East Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia.

Officers safely recovered the child and took the driver into custody. The investigation is ongoing, and no other suspects are believed to be involved.

Officials said anyone with additional information should contact Cheltenham Police online or through phone at (215) 885-1600, ext. 499.
