PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police are searching for a suspect they say burglarized several small businesses in South Philadelphia.

They say the eight burglaries started overnight Saturday, June 24, in the 1st and 3rd districts along the 200 and 300 blocks of Oregon Avenue as well as Broad Street.

Captain Trina Pendleton says during each attempt, the suspect used a blunt force object to get inside the businesses.

“He uses this object to shatter the front entry doors and once inside he proceeds to the cash register where he proceeds to remove any type of U.S. currency,” Pendleton said.

Police were notified of and responded to reports of burglaries at places like Main Squeeze Philly, Pizzeria Pesto and Mui Chung restaurant, where cigarettes were taken and doors were removed.

“We just ask that the local business owners, if you have any type of security system, to please activate the system before you leave. Also, do not leave any type of money within the cash register.

Pendleton also urges all businesses to contact their Police District Community Relations Officer to come out and make sure your business is properly secure.

The suspect has a beard, is about 6 feet tall, and is believed to be in his mid-30s to 50s. Pendleton added that he usually carries a shoulder bag.

Police ask if you have any information on him or the incidents to contact them at 215-686-3013. Tips can also be submitted anonymously here.
