PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police in Montgomery County are investigating a carjacking early Friday morning in Oaks.

Upper Providence police said it happened around 1 a.m. near the intersection of Black Rock and Egypt roads.

A person told police that men in masks flashed a handgun and stole their car.

As police were responding, they received word of a second stolen vehicle in the area. The two cars were spotted not far from that intersection.

Police said after a brief chase, one of the cars crashed at Yeager and Lewis roads in Royersford. The people in the car ran off. Police found a gun in one of the cars. A search of the area including dogs and drones came up empty.

The crash happened near a Spring-Ford elementary school. The district said there is no threat to students or staff but security has been increased.
