PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police are investigating a triple shooting that happened in the Tacony section of the city early Tuesday.
Around 1:30 a.m., police responded to the area of Torresdale Avenue and Robbins Street. A 21-year-old driver had just dropped someone off when a dark-colored sedan pulled up and one or more people targeted him.
Gunfire peppered the driver’s side of the car more than a dozen times, police said.
The victim was hit multiple times, and a 48-year-old man was struck in the chest. They were able to drive the bullet-riddled car to a police station, and cops took them to the hospital, where they are in stable condition.
Police then found out about a third victim, a 24-year-old man who was shot in the arm. He had already been taken to the hospital and was stable.
“Right now, we don’t know if any of those two were the intended target or they were struck by stray gunfire,” Chief Inspector Scott Small said.
Investigators said at least 20 shots were fired in all.
Following the shooting, officers stopped a car that sped away from the scene. The two people inside got out and tried to run away, but the officers caught up to them and took them into custody as persons of interest, according to Small.
Investigators are looking into their possible involvement and a motive for the shooting.
