PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Authorities have charged a 16-year-old in a shooting death, which they say is a case of mistaken identity. The Philadelphia Police Department also says the boy has been charged for three other murders.
Ameen Hurst has been charged with killing Rodney Hargrove, 20. He had just been released from Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility on March 18, and was waiting for a ride when he was fatally shot.
Officials believe Hurst also killed two others during a quadruple shooting in West Philadelphia on March 11.
Tamir Brown, 16, and Naquon Smith, 24, died when they were gunned down while sitting in a car with another teen and a woman. Officers arrested Hurst on April 21 in that case and charged him with two murders.
Police say Hurst also killed Dyewou Scruggs, 20, on Christmas Eve. He was allegedly chasing after the victim, shooting at Scruggs 15 times. He was arrested and charged for that murder on March 20.
Police credit tips from the public following a press conference in March with helping to arrest Hurst.
