PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — One of two teenagers charged in the fatal 2022 shooting at a West Philadelphia recreation center pleaded guilty Wednesday.

Makie Jones was 14 years old when prosecutors say he opened fire outside the former Mill Creek Recreation Center around 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 9, 2022.

About a dozen shots were fired. Tiffany Fletcher, a 41-year-old employee at the center, was caught in the crossfire while trying to get away from the scene and died.

Officials say three people identified Jones as the shooter — one was Fletcher’s mom, who saw him running from the center with a gun in hand.

At some point, Jones tossed the gun. It was later found by police and matched some of the ballistics near Fletcher’s body.

Jones pleaded guilty to third-degree murder, gun and related charges. He is expected to be sentenced in June.

Malik Fleger was also charged with her murder. He has a hearing scheduled for next week.

The center was renamed in honor of Fletcher last summer.
