SOUTHWEST PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A teenager is dead after being shot and killed by a gunman at a playground in Southwest Philadelphia Monday night.

Philadelphia Police say it happened around 9 p.m. at the Russell DeRitis Playground on Grays Avenue near 57th Street.

Chief Inspector Scott Small said police real-time crime cameras captured the shooting, as a gunman crept up behind the teen sitting in a play area of the playground and opened fire. He said the teen was struck in the head, face, back and torso, and the gunman then fled the scene.

Paramedics took the teen to Penn Presbyterian Hospital, where he was declared dead at 9:05 p.m.

Investigators found nine spent shell casings at the scene close to the victim's body and found his cell phone.

Police have yet to identify the victim.

They also don't have any witnesses, but Small said officers are knocking on doors in the neighborhood to ask if anyone saw anything.

Anyone with information is asked to call Philadelphia police.
