PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A broken cellphone might have been what led to a 15-year-old being shot and critically injured in Frankford Tuesday night.
The shooting happened around 7:30 p.m. The boy and two others were leaving a corner store at Margaret and Tacony streets.
Surveillance video shows a car stopping at the corner; the driver opens the door and fires a shot, and the boy collapses on the sidewalk.
“We’re getting information that the shooting stemmed from an earlier argument between the 15-year-old who was shot and another juvenile that was over some damage to a cellphone,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small, “and we believe that is the motivation that escalated to this shooting.”
He said police found the car abandoned a few blocks away. They’re checking it for evidence that may help them identify the shooter.
