PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — An explosion of gunfire in West Philadelphia sent two 17-year-olds to the hospital Wednesday night.

Around 10:30 p.m., police said one of the teens flagged down an officer near Arch and North Redfield streets and said he had been shot in the shoulder.

When police went to the scene of the shooting, they found another 17-year-old who had been shot in the chest. He is in critical condition. The other teen is stable.

Detectives found about 40 spent shell casings at the scene. Chief Inspector Scott Small said one of the bullets went through a second-floor bedroom window, where a woman was sleeping in her bed.

"She's very lucky," he said. "She was lying in bed when the bullet went through her window in the room she was sleeping in and then lodged in the wall. She was not injured. Police did check on her — of course, she's very shaken up."

Some of the bullet casings were from a rifle while others were from a handgun, so police believe they are looking for two shooters.
