Temple workshop offers stores advice ahead of Small Business Saturday

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Temple University is hosting an online session for local stores and shops that are brainstorming ideas for the upcoming observance of Small Business Saturday.

The day falls the Saturday after Thanksgiving and is designed — by its very name — to shine a light on small, community-oriented businesses.

Jamie Shanker-Passero, associate director of the Small Business Development Center housed in Temple’s Fox School of Business, said COVID-19 has drastically changed the landscape for small businesses.

During the free virtual session on Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., businesses in the greater Philadelphia area can hear from some of the center’s experts on strategies to attract customers.

“Even if you’re just doing some online promotions, even if you’re doing virtual consulting — ‘Let’s do a virtual consultation over the phone so I can help you pick out your holiday gifts for your family. Let me give you the personal touch in that way.’ Right? It’s that reminder that small businesses matter,” she said.
