PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Federal authorities are investigating whether a former Temple University basketball player bet on his own games.

Hysier Miller spent three years with the Owls before transferring to Virginia Tech this season. But, he was reportedly dismissed by the Hokies because of the investigation.

According to ESPN, a gambling monitoring service flagged unusual betting activity on Temple's game against University of Alabama Birmingham in March.

“We take seriously the integrity of collegiate athletics as well as the education and well-being of our student athletes,” said Temple President John Fry in a letter to students.

He said the school has been cooperating with the NCAA in its investigation, but they haven't been contacted by Federal agents yet.

A lawyer for Miller told ESPN "Hysier Miller has overcome more adversity in his 22 years than most people face in their lifetime. He will meet and overcome whatever obstacles lay ahead."
