Temporary rental assistance available for Philadelphians with HIV

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Temporary financial assistance is available for those living with HIV in Philadelphia and who are having difficulties paying their rent because of the coronavirus pandemic.

To be considered eligible for the new grant program, candidates must:

• be HIV positive;
• make less than $63,800 per year;
• provide proof of a loss of income due to COVID-19;
• rent an apartment or house in Philadelphia or the surrounding suburbs, including Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties, or Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Salem counties in New Jersey;
• have a written lease signed by the property’s landlord;
• be actively enrolled in HIV medical case management;
• have a current copy of a Ryan White certification card;
• and, candidates cannot live in public housing or receive any other public rental assistance.

The grant provides at least three months and up to six months of direct financial assistance between $2,500 and $5,000.

The money comes from the federal government’s Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program. The Philadelphia Department of Public Health’s AIDS Activities Coordinating Office manages the program.
