Medical Report: The pros of monitoring your blood pressure at home

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — It is called "white coat syndrome" — some people who go to the doctor's office routinely have high blood pressure measurements in front of the doctor, but when they check their pressure at home, it is normal.

The good news is that home blood pressure monitoring is easier than ever, and people can actually measure their blood pressure like they measure their weight. In fact, doctors recommend that you create a diary and bring it to the office. This actually gives a more realistic view of your pressure.

Remember to take your blood pressure at the same time every day. Sit still, don't take measurements over clothes, don't cross your legs, and don't talk while taking the pressure.
