PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Philly-born band The War On Drugs is returning to their local roots for three nights of holiday shows at Johnny Brenda’s.

Monday kicks off the band’s third year of “A Drugcember to Remember,” with proceeds benefiting The Fund for the School District of Philadelphia, a nonprofit that aims to strengthen public education in Philadelphia.

“This kind of is something we just like to do to reconnect and to give back to the place that has given so much to us,” said Charlie Hall, drummer for The War On Drugs.

Providing more support and opportunities to students is important to Hall, especially because his kids attend both public and private schools in Philadelphia.

He says raising money for the Fund helps fulfill specific needs at individual schools.

“Music education is something that’s important to me – and to us – but also, I’m also interested in making sure that kids have lockers that need lockers, or that a writing program has the tools they need,” Hall said.

The band will have more fundraising opportunities next month with an online auction of items, like a pair of tickets to any of their headline shows for the next five years.
