PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — It’s a growing problem in several South Jersey towns: Thieves are breaking into unlocked vehicles and stealing valuables, sometimes even the cars themselves.
Police are increasing patrols to crack down on the trend.
“We have plainclothes officers in the area, we have cameras in the area, we have multiple shifts doing extra patrols,” Gloucester Township Police Lt. Paul Fisher told NBC10.
“Keep your key fobs inside [your house]. Lock your cars at night. That should prevent most of this from happening.”
Mount Laurel police offered similar advice.
So far this month, police said four cars have been reported stolen in Mount Laurel. Three had keys inside.
In Gloucester Township, police said four cars were reported stolen in the last week. All of them were unlocked with keys left inside.
