PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Three Philadelphia men have been charged in connection with a string of summer carjackings.
Federal prosecutors accuse 18-year-old Rasheen Harvey-Fields, 20-year-old Tavon Fry, and 21-year-old Saair Steele of conspiring to steal 11 cars at gunpoint between June 25 and July 11 of this year across Philadelphia.
The suspects allegedly used vehicles they stole to commit other crimes, including robbery, aggravated assault, and more carjackings.
Prosecutors said the suspects sometimes pretended to buy or sell marijuana as part of the carjackings, and at other times targeted people exiting their cars.
All three have made their initial appearances in court and are currently in federal custody.
If convicted, the defendants face a maximum possible sentence of life in prison.
