PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Tinsel, the over-the-top Christmas pop-up bar in Midtown Village with floor-to-ceiling decor and festive drinks, officially opens for the holiday season on Friday.

Decorations fill just about every inch of space — from holiday-themed cartoon characters and Philly mascots to Rudolph, Santa Claus and Frosty the Snowman.

“We have it packed with layers of Christmas,” said Alex Bokulich, project manager at Craft Concepts Group. “We kind of covered the walls and then we put cool stuff we built that we created and found on top.”

Tinsel occupies two floors of an old jewelry store on 12th Street, near Sansom Street.

If the theme alone doesn’t get you in the Christmas spirit, the cocktails certainly will.

“Things like hot chocolate, warm whiskey drinks to spins on espresso martinis,” said Bokulich. “Every one of our cocktails is served in its own unique keepsake cup that you can take home with you.”

A dollar from every purchase of the souvenir cups — like a rum drink in a snow globe or a tequila drink served in a soup can — goes toward the nonprofit MANNA.

Tinsel opens at 4 p.m. daily and runs through the end of the year.
