PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Intense rain that created flooding across the city on Monday is affecting drivers this morning.

Part of Kelly Drive is closed between the Falls Bridge and Hunting Park Avenue because of a layer of mud across all four lanes.

The Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management (OEM) said with water receding back into the river, workers are now focused on cleaning the mud off the road. Then, they will move on to other debris.

The layer of mud is thickest in the lane that runs along the Schuylkill River.

While crews are working to make this section of Kelly Drive safe, the OEM cautions drivers that roads can be slicker throughout the area, so drive carefully.

The city hasn’t said when the road may reopen. For now, traffic is being diverted across the river to MLK Drive.
