PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Multiple people were injured after a shuttle bus full of hospital workers collided with a car and overturned along Columbus Boulevard in South Philadelphia Friday morning.

It happened around 6:45 a.m. at Columbus Boulevard and Reed Street. Police said a red Honda Civic Sport was traveling southbound on Columbus Boulevard when it collided with a white Ford shuttle bus that was traveling eastbound on Reed Street.

The shuttle spun and overturned onto the driver’s side near the crosswalk at the median, smashing the front windshield and scattering other debris.

The shuttle was transporting University of Pennsylvania Hospital staff and had 10 occupants on board at the time of the crash.

Seven people were taken to area hospitals. One passenger was initially in critical condition but has since been upgraded to stable. The conditions of the other passengers are unknown at this time.

The 33-year-old driver of the Honda and the 57-year-old driver of the shuttle remained on the scene.

No charges have been filed, and the crash remains under investigation.

The shuttle was towed away around 8:30 a.m., reopening all lanes on Columbus Boulevard.

"The safety and well-being of our employees is a top priority. We are cooperating fully with the Philadelphia Police Department as its investigation continues," Penn Medicine said in a statement.
