PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A box truck crashed into the Media Post Office early Thursday.

Authorities say around 6 a.m. the vehicle drove into the lobby of the building located on Baltimore Avenue and Monroe Street.

They say the truck hopped the curb and smashed into the lobby of the post office, shattering the front window panels and breaking pipes in the ceiling. Contractors are assessing the damage, which they say could take days to restore.

Postal Service Operations Manager Patrick Campbell says there were postal workers inside the back of the building when the crash happened, but no injuries have been reported.

The office will be closed until further notice and people are being urged to bring their items to the post office in Springfield, which is about a mile and a half down the road on on Baltimore Pike, for the time being.

Police say they are not investigating this as a crime and are looking into the possibility that the driver swerved to avoid an animal in the road.
