PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Terminal A-West security checkpoint at Philadelphia International Airport reopened Friday morning, the second checkpoint to reopen this week after TSA officers started to get paid again.

The Terminal A-West checkpoint, primarily used by travelers flying internationally, reopened at 5 a.m. The line moved along during the morning rush with few issues.

The checkpoint at Terminal C, which is TSA PreCheck only, reopened on Thursday.

Only one screening area, the checkpoint at Terminal F, remains closed, but it is scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, April 7. So, there was still a long, winding line at the nearest checkpoint at Terminal D/E. At one point on Friday, the estimated wait time there was 36 to 41 minutes.

The three checkpoints were closed for weeks because of the TSA staffing shortage caused by the partial government shutdown, which has now dragged on for 49 days. Many officers called out or quit as paychecks stopped coming in.

Officers started to get paid again on Monday after President Donald Trump signed an executive order, which has helped ease some of the long lines.

Local TSA union officials say so far, they have received two out of the three paychecks that they are owed. One of the payments that they were supposed to receive this week is delayed due to an issue in the payroll system.
