PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A new report in American Family Physician suggests two things parents can do that can make a major difference in the development of their child.

First, take time to read to your child. Set aside time each day to read stories to your child with age-appropriate books.

Study after study says this increases literacy and helps with school readiness.

Second, make sure you have a structured mealtime environment where the family gets together. It can be difficult and might be impossible to do every day with work and other obligations, but it's important to focus on this whenever possible.
