PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police in South Jersey broke up a massive fight at a flag football tournament Saturday afternoon.
Gloucester Township police responded around 1 p.m. to a fight by the football fields at Gloucester Township Community Park on Hickstown Road.
Authorities said about 40 people were engaged in a shoving match, and a large crowd had gathered to watch.
Police broke up the fight, which they said was the result of an unsanctioned flag football tournament. According to officials, coaches from a team became disgruntled with a tournament organizer and demanded their entry fee back.
The Gloucester Township Parks and Recreation Department requires permits to use athletic fields for organized events, and police said this tournament was unauthorized.
An investigation is ongoing.
