PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia Police and a victim's family are offering a $40,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for a fatal hit-and-run crash that happened this past June.
That family is making a desperate plea to bring that person to justice.
Officials said on the morning of June 1, Dr. Gohar Zimran was riding his motorcycle to work on Rising Sun Avenue in North Philadelphia when he was hit by a gray Ford F-151 pick up truck that ran a red light.
They say the driver of the truck sped off, and Zimran spent the next 42 days in the hospital from multiple injuries. He died July 12.
Sonia Bhatti, his widow, said her family is left with nothing.
"I'm asking for anyone who can come forward and help us in this matter. I have two small young children. We need justice," said Bhatti.
Philadelphia Police Captain Mark Overwise said they are offering $20,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for the hit-and-run.
"The family...has offered to match that reward. I want to make it clear this is a $40,000 reward," said Overwise.
Dr. Zimran just started his career as an attending physician at Temple University Hospital last year.
