$77 million in unclaimed federal stimulus payments still available for Philadelphians

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — There is approximately $77 million in unclaimed federal stimulus payments for Philadelphians. There is an approaching deadline, and an effort is underway to get the word out to low-income residents who have yet to apply.

Up to 64,000 Philadelphia households may still be entitled to their federal stimulus payments, which were approved as part of the CARES Act earlier this year. People who make little or no money and have not filed taxes for 2019 are eligible.

Mitchell Little, executive director of the city’s Office of Community Empowerment and Opportunity, is getting the word out about the Nov. 21 deadline for those earning under  $12,000 a year.

“So this is folks that are maybe in long-term care facilities, have little employment or no employment, and even folks in county state or federal penitentiaries,” Little said.

Individuals can get $1,200 or $2,400 for married couples, with up to $500 for each qualifying child.

There is an IRS form that has to be completed again by Nov. 21. For those who need help accessing the internet, call United Way’s Economic Impact Helpline at ‪844-322-3639.
