PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Rosemont College will be merging with Villanova University in 2027.
In an announcement Monday, Villanova said the legacy and heritage of Rosemont will be preserved in the merger.
During the multi-year transition, Rosemont will continue operating as a separate entity, allowing students to graduate with degrees from the college.
“We are committed to securing the best possible options for our students, faculty and staff and believe this merger with Villanova offers the best opportunity to ensure that the Rosemont College history and legacy endures,” said Rosemont College President Jim Cawley.
The decision comes as Rosemont faced longstanding financial struggles.
Students enrolled at Rosemont school have until June 2028 to complete their degrees. Students who have not completed their degrees by then can choose to transfer to Villanova.
After the transition, Rosemont will be known as "Villanova University, Rosemont Campus."
Last year, Villanova purchased Cabrini College. Reopening for that could come as early as next year.
