PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Dozens of homes are without water as crews work to fix a water main that burst in Manayunk early Monday morning.
Water started gushing out sometime after 2 a.m., buckling a section of Manayunk Avenue near Grape Street, between Roxborough and Monastery avenues. Officials said a 10-inch main broke.
For hours, there was a steady stream of water flowing down the street, veering off to the right onto Roxborough Avenue. Dirt and debris and caked-up mud filled the sidewalks.
Officials said they had to shut off the water, affecting about 70 homes.
“Found it out the hard way,” said resident Shawn Healy. “Turned on the faucet, no water coming out. Walked outside — nice little flood going on out here.”
There were no reports of any homes, businesses or cars getting damaged.
The Philadelphia Water Department estimates service will be restored at some point Monday afternoon.
