A peek through the Portal

Now streaming in Center City: Windows into three other parts of the world. The Portal — circular in shape and lens-like in design — was activated this past week in LOVE Park. It lets passersby see what’s happening in Vilnius, Lithuania; Lublin, Poland; and Dublin, Ireland. KYW Newsradio’s John McDevitt scoped things out and found the Portal was an instant hit.

Postpartum in Pennsylvania

About 10 years ago, following the birth of one of her children, Elizabeth Fiedler was in a funk. She didn’t know why. Now, as the State Representative (D) for parts of Philadelphia County, the 44-year-old is not only better informed about the condition she was dealing with, but in a position to help others in a similar situation. NJ River Line riders sound off at meeting

Unreliable schedules, smelly stations, faulty crossing alerts. There’s a lengthy list of frustrations with NJ Transit’s River Line, not just for commuters but South Jersey pedestrians and residents too. On the heels of a fatal accident that claimed the life of a River Line train operator, NJ Transit listened to grievances about its light rail system during a packed community meeting in Palmyra. KYW Newsradio’s Nina Baratti was there.

A heated council session

Plans for a new 76ers arena along East Market Street moved to City Council last week, but, as expected, opponents of the project aren’t backing down without a fight — or, at the very least, some boos. From boisterous interruptions of proceedings to police escorting a demonstrator out of City Hall, the first formal legislative hearing for the arena had plenty of fireworks. KYW Newsradio City Hall Bureau Chief Pat Loeb was in the chambers and shared all the details.
