PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A weekend curfew is now in effect on a stretch of East State Street in Trenton, New Jersey, where city officials said late-night parties and unruly crowds have become a growing concern.

Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora announced an emergency executive order imposing the curfew during a news conference Friday.

“We've tried to work with the businesses, and yet they continue to attract crowds. They're not taking responsibility for them, and it's unfortunate that they're adding to the disturbances and quality of life of the downtown neighborhood,” said Gusciora.

The order targets East State Street between Carroll Street and South Broad Street, an area nicknamed “Club City Hall”, and requires businesses to close by 10 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Bars are currently exempt from the curfew, but Gusciora said he is considering a "party tax" to help fund additional police patrols if necessary.

He said that the curfew remains in effect until at least the end of August 2025.
