PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — An explosion rocked a popular Overbrook Park bagel shop for the second time in two months.
New York Bagels on Haverford Avenue planned to reopen Sunday morning after extensive renovations. But around 5:15 a.m., an explosion blew out the windows and caused a lot of damage inside.
No one was hurt. The fire department is investigating what went wrong.
The bakery’s owner told the Philadelphia Inquirer that he was knocked unconscious during the first gas explosion back in March. He said the gas had been running for nearly an hour when he went to turn on the oven. He said the only reason he wasn’t seriously injured was that he was under a shelf.
