PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police said two drivers got into a fight that turned into a deadly shooting Wednesday in West Philadelphia.
Authorities taped off a half-block stretch of 60th Street near Catharine Street in the Cobbs Creek neighborhood, where there were blood stains in the road and a handful of spent shell casings between a black Buick and a burgundy Jeep.
Shortly before 2:30 p.m., police said the drivers got out of their cars and a 35-year-old man stabbed a 42-year-old man, who then shot the 35-year-old.
Both men were taken to a nearby hospital. Police said the shooting victim was pronounced dead around 3, while the gunman is stable. The homicide unit is investigating.
Police didn’t say what exactly led up to the altercation, but Clinton, who lives on the block, saw it unfold. “So I walk up there, I look at the guy, I say, ‘Yo, he ain’t no good, don’t make no sense,’” he told KYW Newsradio. “I said, ‘What is that about?’ He said some money he owes him. I was like, ‘Oh, this is personal.’”
Clinton said he was talking to the gunman and that it looked like the two men were talking on the phone during the apparent pursuit. He was dismayed witnessing such a gruesome event in broad daylight.
“We’re killing our own people, for what? A couple of dollars?” he pleaded. “This shouldn’t have ever happened. It’s just…it’s going on every day, man. When’s it going to stop?”
