PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, one of the city’s oldest celebrations, will feature a new route this year.

When and where is the parade?

The annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade will begin at 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 16, and run through 3 p.m. The route will start at 16th Street and John F. Kennedy Boulevard and end at the Art Museum.

What is the parade route?

The procession will head north on 16th Street to Benjamin Franklin Parkway, and continue along the Parkway to the Art Museum.

The parade will be held rain or shine. Traffic delays are expected, and drivers are advised to use alternate routes.

What roads are closed?

Eakins Oval from Kelly Drive to Spring Garden Street from 5:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.

These streets will be closed from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.:
- John F. Kennedy Boulevard between 20th Street and 15th Street
- 20th Street between Market Street and Arch Street
- 19th Street between Market Street and Arch Street
- 18th Street between Market Street and Arch Street
- 17th Street between Market Street and Arch Street
- 16th Street between Market Street and Arch Street
- 15th Street between Market Street and Arch Street

And these stretches will be closed from 10:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.:
- 16th Street between Market Street and Cherry Street
- Benjamin Franklin Parkway between 16th Street and Eakins Oval (Parade will go around the south side of Eakins Oval and end on the south side)
- All neighboring cross streets on Benjamin Franklin Parkway from 16th to 22nd Street until the parade passes, and the streets are serviced and reopened.

Parking Restrictions

Temporary no-parking restrictions along the parade route will commence around 5 a.m. on Sunday, March 16, and remain in place until approximately 3 p.m.

Impacted streets include:
- 1400-2000 block of John F. Kennedy Boulevard
- Benjamin Franklin Parkway between 16th Street and Eakins Oval

Cars parked in these locations during posted hours will be moved. If your car is relocated, you should call the police district of the area where your car was parked.

Traveling on public transportation?

SEPTA Bus Routes 2, 7, 17, 27, 31, 32, 33, 38, 44, 48, 49, 124 and 125 will be detoured from their normal routes through Center City from 5 a.m. to approximately 5 p.m.

Regional Rail riders are not permitted to bring cups or liquids of any kind on board. All bags are subject to search, and backpacks and satchels are discouraged.
