PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Get ready to lace up your ice skates and take a ride on the Ferris wheel — Independence Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest is back at Penn’s Landing for its 31st season.

Dozens hit the NHL-sized rink Friday night to ring in the holiday season. For some, it's a tradition like no other.

Burrell says her family comes every year, and this time, she got to see her 3-year-old grandson ice skate for the first time.

“It's just a wonderful place. The ambiance is great. It gets us in the Christmas mood and that's what we need,” she said.

Kathy, who’s visiting from Arlington, Virginia, got to check out Winterfest for the first time Friday. She said her favorite part was the trimmings.

“All the lights and the lodge that has like a fireplace in it. It's great.”

Skate sessions are 90 minutes. Admission to the rink is $5 and skate rentals are $12. Reservations are recommended, as spots fill up quickly.

In addition to skating, people can play boardwalk games, check out the indoor arcade or hang out in the lodge.

Because of the I-95 cap project on Penn's Landing, parking is limited. So be sure to plan your travel options ahead of time.
