PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 72-year-old woman is dead after a suspected drunk driver hit her with his truck in Northeast Philly Friday night, then drove off.
Police say the crash happened just after 7:30 p.m. on Ryan Avenue, just a block off Frankford Avenue. The woman was struck by a driver in a Dodge Ram truck going eastbound as she crossed the street.
Authorities found the truck and the driver almost 10 minutes away near the Roosevelt Playground, by Walker and Levick streets in Oxford Circle. The driver, who police say showed signs of intoxication, was arrested for DUI.
The woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition and died Saturday morning.
Police say upgraded charges against the driver are pending further investigation.
