PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A woman has been charged with murder in connection with a Southwest Philadelphia fire back in February that killed a man.
The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office said 34-year-old Chardae Sapp is responsible for a house fire in the early-morning hours of Feb. 4 at 54th and Regent streets in Kingsessing.
Several people were home at the time, but one man, 25-year-old Raymond Bell, was found unresponsive and suffering from burns in the second-floor bedroom. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Fire marshals determined the fire was set intentionally with an open flame that was applied to bedding and mattress materials.
Witnesses told investigators that Sapp was the last person in the room where the fire started, and that she left the house before firefighters arrived.
District Attorney Larry Krasner called the incident a “terrible tragedy that should have never happened.”
Sapp is facing several charges, including murder, four counts of attempted murder, arson and related offenses.
