DELAWARE COUNTY, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — A woman is dead after she was shot Friday afternoon during a child custody swap in Upper Darby.
According to our newsgathering partners at NBC10, the 34-year-old mother came to pick up her kids from their 45-year-old father around noon at a house on Copley Road near Walnut Street.
They say the three kids hopped into the back of the SUV that she arrived in, and the mother sat in the driver's seat. The father then sat in the passenger seat, and an argument broke out.
That’s when, NBC10 says, the father pulled out a gun and shot the woman before turning the gun on himself. The children, still in the back of the SUV. Both were taken to the hospital, where the woman later died. The man’s condition has not yet been released.
The children were taken to a safe location after the incident. None were reported injured.
“It’s not something you want to see in any area, much less this area, where it’s our home — we feel safe here, kids play here all the time, so it’s just, it’s heartbreaking, honestly,” Ritchel Pierre Jean Baptiste, who lives in the neighborhood, told NBC10.
