PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A woman was killed crossing the street in Center City this morning.
Around 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, a white Audi driving westbound struck a woman in her 20s as she crossed the road at South 19th Street and Lombard Street, a few blocks south of Rittenhouse Square.
First responders had to lift the car to reach her. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sources say the woman was a teacher at a nearby charter school.
The driver stayed to speak with investigators, and police have decided not to make any arrests.
Street closures related to the investigation caused some minor traffic mishaps and backups on the surrounding roads, but traffic returned to normal after police cleared the area.
