SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — A Pemberton, New Jersey woman has pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated during a collision last year that killed a 17-year-old girl.
The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office said 55-year-old Wanda Sprague admitted to drinking at a bar in Browns Mills before getting behind the wheel and causing a head-on collision with a car driven by Kayla Bowen, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash happened around 9:15 p.m. on Dec. 16, 2021.
Investigators said Sprague didn’t have her headlights on. She reached more than 90 miles per hour, and her blood-alcohol level was .188 — more than double the legal limit.
According to prosecutors, Sprague told the court she did not remember the collision.
The Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office said she has had several surgeries and may need to have her foot amputated.
Sprague also pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for November.
