PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A woman shot and killed a masked man who broke into her apartment in Frankford.
The shooting took place around 5 a.m. Wednesday morning, at a three-story apartment building near Castor Avenue and Adams Avenue, next to Northwood Academy Charter School.
The woman woke up to the sound of shattering glass in her second-floor apartment. According to Police Chief Inspector Scott Small, the masked man had climbed up to her apartment using the fire escape, broke a window and reached inside to open the door to her apartment.
The woman went to confront the intruder with a gun. Small said that when she saw the man in her apartment, she fired “one or two” shots and hit him in the head, killing him.
When officers and medics arrived to treat the 29-year-old, they removed his mask, and the woman recognized him, confirming she had a prior relationship with the man. Police so far have not verified the nature of the relationship.
Police say the woman is cooperating with them and was taken to the homicide unit for questioning. Officers recovered her gun but say the intruder was unarmed.
