PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police say a woman died Friday afternoon while trying to escape gunshots fired into her Kensington house.

The incident unfolded around 1:15 p.m. Police say two teenagers were fighting on the 3400 block of Tampa Street when a white car arrived and someone inside got out and pulled out a gun.

As people started to run away, the suspect, who police believe is a 39-year-old man, fired a shot and chased them. Police say the man then fired another shot on the 600 block of E. Ontario Street. That's when Gladys Rivera-Perez, 59, heard gunshots while sitting on her front porch on Crystal Street. Police say she then went inside and the group followed.

Police say the man shot twice into the woman's house, striking her as she tried getting to the second floor. He then fled the scene.

Gladys Rivera-Perez was taken to a nearby hospital, where she died.

Police received information about the car the man arrived in and traced it to the 1300 block of Saint Vincent.

A barricade was set up and the residence was cleared. Police say the owner of the car was inside and taken in for questioning before being released.

The 39-year-old was not inside the residence.

Police describe him as a stocky man with a long beard. He was last seen in a red shirt and dark-colored baseball cap.
