Sept. 10 editor's note: The Woodmere Art Museum confirmed that the grant has been reinstated and the suit has been dismissed. The original story is as follows:
PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Woodmere Art Museum in Chestnut Hill is suing the Trump administration, claiming it unlawfully terminated a $750,000 grant that was awarded under a historic preservation program.
Woodmere said it “has been scrambling ever since” its grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services was rescinded in April. In March, President Donald Trump signed an executive order reducing the staff at IMLS to the minimum required by law.
Woodmere said the agency doesn’t have the staff to service grants, and it has started to terminate funding like the museum’s.
It said it was relying on the cash to carry out a project for its “America 250” exhibition next year. It received less than a third of the grant before it was terminated.
