
PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A fatal crash shut down part of I-95 in South Philadelphia Sunday morning after a suspected drunk driver drove the wrong way on the interstate and crashed into a car head-on.
Just before 3 a.m., Pennsylvania State Police said a 44-year-old man was driving south on the northbound side of I-95 when he hit another car head-on. The driver of the other car, a 21-year-old woman, was killed.
It happened between the exits for the Walt Whitman Bridge and Columbus Boulevard.
The man was taken to the hospital for unspecified injuries. Investigators determined he was under the influence of alcohol.
At this time, Pennsylvania State Police said charges are being prepared.
The crash shut down lanes on the highway for several hours Sunday morning.
