Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has been continually giving advice and educating the public on the COVID-19 pandemic.
The top adviser to President Joe Biden on the coronavirus confirmed that he is "not convinced" it developed naturally. Now, the doctor wants researchers to investigate further into where it originated.
During an event called "United Facts of America: A Festival of Fact-Checking," Fauci answered a question about how confident he was that the deadly virus developed organically, according to Fox News.
"No, actually. I am not convinced about that. I think we should continue to investigate what went on in China until we continue to find out, to the best of our ability, what happened," Fauci said.
"Certainly, the people who investigated it say it likely was the emergence from an animal reservoir that then infected individuals, but it could have been something else, and we need to find that out. So, you know, that's the reason why I said I'm perfectly in favor of any investigation that looks into the origin of the virus," the doctor added.
As COVID-19 case numbers continue to drop significantly across the nation, more states are lifting restrictions.
However, the latest mask-wearing guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have confused many Americans.
Fauci said that people across the country are not quite getting the new changes that the CDC has released
"I think people are misinterpreting and thinking that this is a removal for the mask mandate for everyone," Fauci said. "It's not. It's an assurance to those who are vaccinated that they can feel safe outdoors or indoors."
Just weeks after the CDC announced that fully vaccinated people could safely be outside without a mask, Fauci gave his stamp of approval to the new maskless measures.
Fauci confirmed his belief that fully vaccinated people are free to roam outdoors without a mask.
