If there’s something you truly love to do that you only get to partake in “once in a blue moon,” you are in luck this month!
The month of August will feature a treat for stargazers: a pair of supermoons. And when two supermoons occur in the same month, the second one is what’s known as a “blue moon.”
Tuesday night’s full moon was the first of this month’s supermoons. It appeared slightly bigger and brighter than usual because it was closer to the Earth than normal.
The next full moon will be even closer for skywatchers to enjoy on August 30.
The last time the Earth experienced two full supermoons in the same month was five years ago in 2018. It will take even longer for the next occurrence to come back around.
The planet won’t see another blue moon until 2037.
